Sonoma, California, January 23, 2012-

The Nelson Family of Companies, a multi-divisional human capital solutions company, announced today that long-term Director Mr. Monty A. Houdeshell has been elected as its new Chairman of the Board, replacing Gary D. Nelson, Founder of the Nelson Family of Companies and Chairman since 1970.

This appointment is part of the planned transition in leadership at Nelson following the previously announced sale of a majority interest in its WorkforceLogic division to ZeroChaos and the departure of former CEO Catherine Candland. Replacing Candland as CEO of the Nelson Family of Companies is Craig S. Nelson.

“Having a well-experienced board Chair who is not a family member is a new and exciting direction for us,” said Craig Nelson. “As Monty focuses on oversight of board operations and corporate governance, I can concentrate fully on building the business, maintaining successful client relationships, and ensuring a fun and productive workplace for our staff.”

An innovative executive who has led numerous corporate transitions resulting in favorable outcomes for management, clients, and employees, Houdeshell has been a valued member of Nelson’s board since 2006, most recently serving as Chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee. He has served as the CFO and CAO for publicly-traded companies in a variety of industries in addition to human capital, including communications technology, healthcare, and manufacturing. Currently Principal at Houdeshell Advisors, LLC, he serves clients in an interim executive capacity or as an advisor to CEOs and boards on a variety of strategic and operational issues. Houdeshell has also served as CFO at Autobytel, Inc.; CAO and CFO for Remedy Temp Inc., The Furon Company, and Oak Industries, Inc.; and in a variety of finance and administrative positions at Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corp. He holds a B.S in Finance from The Ohio State University and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Business Development from the University of Southern California, and currently resides in Laguna Niguel, California.

“I have full confidence in Monty’s ability to lead our board during this next period of the company’s evolution,” said Gary Nelson. “In addition to Monty’s experience in staffing and board leadership, he’s a hands-on professional in strategic planning and corporate governance. Under his guidance, we’re expecting great things in 2012.”

Sonoma, California, January 16, 2012 – Craig S. Nelson, son of Founder Gary D. Nelson, is taking over as CEO of the Nelson Family of Companies, transitioning from his role as Executive VP of Staffing Services into the role of CEO, effective January 12, 2012. Craig takes over from Catherine Candland who is joining ZeroChaos following the recent sale of Nelson’s WorkforceLogic division to them.

Says Gary Nelson, “For more than 40 years, I have put my heart and soul into this company. Craig has been with Nelson over ten years and has established strong relationships with staff, clients, and members of the community. I anticipate this will be a smooth transition and the company will thrive under Craig’s leadership.”

No newcomer to leadership, prior to going to work for Nelson as General Counsel in 2001, Craig Nelson spent seven years with the Criminal Division of the California Department of Justice, and before that, three years as a litigator with the Law Offices of Bowles and Verna. He has a Masters of Law from the University of San Diego, his Juris Doctor from Hastings College of Law, and degrees in Business Administration and Economics.

“My father leads by example,” says Craig Nelson. “I will, of course, bring my own style to the role of CEO, but there are many ways in which I will follow his successful path. Being an innovator in the field of staffing and changing the way businesses utilize talent and technology to support their strategic goals is certainly something I will emulate.”

Gary Nelson and the company under his leadership has, indeed, had its share of success. Just this year named one of 100 top influential staffing leaders by SIReview, Gary Nelson built his company from a one-office, one-assistant operation to a corporation consisting of 17 locations and more than 300 employees. In 2011, Nelson won NorthBay Biz magazine’s Best Job Placement service and the Bay Area News Group’s Top Workplaces. The company’s success is indicated not only in awards received, though, but also in revenue. For the last two years running, Nelson has surpassed industry growth rates, with 31% growth in 2010 and 16% in 2011, against industry rates of 12% in 2010 and 10% in 2011.

Sonoma, California, January 10, 2012 – The Nelson Family of Companies today announced the sale, effective January 1, 2012, of a majority and controlling interest in its WorkforceLogic division to ZeroChaos, a global workforce solutions company based in Orlando, Florida, along with its financial partner Snow Phipps.

The combination of WorkforceLogic and ZeroChaos provides its clients with an expanded menu of workforce solutions, including statement of work and professional services, spend management, and business analytics. It also offers a formidable supplier network providing great access to quality talent.

Robert W. Baird served as the exclusive financial advisor to WorkforceLogic on this transaction with ZeroChaos and the Snow Phipps group. Snow Phipps, a New York private equity firm, acquired ZeroChaos in 2010 and subsequently Madeo, a Swedish managed services company, in 2011. Nelson will retain a minority interest in the new combined organization.

“Our decision to complete this transaction was based on serving the best long-term interests of our many multinational WorkforceLogic customers and the need to diversify the Nelson family’s assets,” stated Gary D. Nelson, Founder and Chairman of the Board.

When combined, the two companies provide a far greater global reach and the ability to further refine the technology that supports the WorkforceLogic VMS and MSP offering, already rated a Top Performer in 2010 and 2011 by Staffing Industry Analysts. Said Nelson, “In a consolidating market that demands ever more in terms of value and services offered, the combination of WorkforceLogic’s top-performing VMS and MSP services with the strength of the 1.5-billion-dollar-strong ZeroChaos company will increase our capabilities both domestically and internationally.”

Compelling to many potential investors during the sale process was the fact that WorkforceLogic possessed a portfolio of top-quality, emerging-market clients and a strong management team. In its 15 years in the field, WorkforceLogic established a strong track record of success in compliance, risk mitigation, and payroll services, the value of which will be maximized at ZeroChaos.

WorkforceLogic has received top ranking as a VMS and MSP Overall Top Performer in the 2011 customer satisfaction survey conducted by Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA). WorkforceLogic is the single MSP provider in the United States to have received top ratings from the 2000 buyers and staffing providers surveyed. This is the second consecutive year that WorkforceLogic has been ranked as a top performer.

According to Bryan Pena, vice president at Staffing Industry Analysts, “In order to be considered for the ‘Top Performer Overall’ list, vendors had to score in the top quartile for both staffing providers and buyers. Only one managed service provider rated in this year’s survey scored high enough with both key audiences to qualify, WorkforceLogic.”

“This recognition is a testimonial to the high level of customer service our professional staff has provided to our clients. Excellent customer service is a trademark of our company. Since we established WorkforceLogic ten years ago, we have successfully served several Fortune 500 and Silicon Valley industry leaders. Our reputation for quality service has been the differentiator and this ranking supports that success,” said Gary Nelson, founder and chairman of the company.

“Offering clients the ability to access talent while providing tools that enable them to manage their contingent workforce spend is what our customers appreciate,” says Catherine Candland, CEO. “Through its technology, WorkforceLogic is delivering to clients the means to strategically manage their increasingly complex talent needs.”

WorkforceLogic’s managed services and vendor management enhance client competitiveness by helping organizations view their contingent labor as a unified whole. Out of that new perspective comes business intelligence that can be used to achieve more successful and consistent results. WorkforceLogic’s award-winning program dispatches:

Statement of work (SOW) management for timely deliverables

Spend management for optimization of the expenses related to contingent workers

Business intelligence (BI) for tracking and reporting resulting in critical headcount analytics

“With an ever-increasing amount of players offering software and services that support companies utilizing contingent workers, we’re thrilled that our clients think we’re doing it best,” said Founder and Chairman of the Board Gary D. Nelson.

Spend under management is the contingent labor spend being managed by a technology or service. Growing from $66 billion in 2009 to $83.7 billion in 2010, spend under management remains a focus for most organizations. According to Staffing Industry Analysts’ research, companies of all sizes, in just about every industry, are using MSP and VMS providers to manage their contingent workforce programs.

About WorkforceLogic

WorkforceLogic delivers workforce management and risk mitigation solutions that give businesses of all sizes improved control over their contingent workforce programs. Each client’s budget and business goals remain the focus in the development and execution of a creative workforce strategy designed specifically for that customer. Awarded MSP Top Overall Performer by buyers and suppliers and Top VMS Performer by suppliers, WorkforceLogic is an acknowledged expert at providing critical products and services to clients. Spend management, statement of work, and business intelligence for strategic reporting are offered to clients, as are VMS capabilities, MSP, compliance, and payroll. Embracing the values of excellence, innovation, empathy, and integrity when interacting with clients and employees alike, WorkforceLogic holds itself to a high standard.
Sonoma, California, October 24, 2011-

Nelson is delighted to announce founder Gary Nelson’s inclusion in SIReview’s Who’s Who: The Staffing 100. As SIReview put it, “The Staffing 100 is not a ranking; rather, it’s a list of influential staffing leaders chosen after a thorough review of nominations made by [clients], our advisors and the Staffing Industry Analysts’ team.”

Nelson has had a banner year leading up to this inclusion in the top 100. The Bay Area News Group listed the company as one of the 2011 Top Work Places, North Bay Biz awarded Nelson Best Job Placement Service 2011, and Staffing Industry Analysts and San Francisco Business Times also included Nelson among their “Best Staffing Firms” and “Best Places to Work.” Likewise, WorkforceLogic, a division of Nelson, earned Top Overall Performer VMS/MSP from Staffing Industry Analysts and HRO Baker’s Dozen ranking as a winner in customer satisfaction and breadth of service.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my father,” said son and Executive VP of Staffing Services, Craig S. Nelson. “I believe the thing that makes him stand head and shoulders above the rest is his spirit of innovation and willingness to change. He is always focused on meeting the changing needs of our customers. In the 90s, he saw that staffing was trending toward managed services and vendor management, and, rather than contracting out that business, he hired VMS/MSP experts to develop software that incorporated his 30-some years of staffing experience. The result was WorkforceLogic, a stand-alone business unit that is now relied upon by companies globally.”

When asked how he felt about being named a Top 100 influential leader, Gary Nelson (a staunch San Francisco 49er fan) said, “When the 49ers named us their Preferred Staffing Provider, I thought my year was made, but this is the icing on the cake! I am honored to be in this publication with colleagues who have helped shape the staffing and contingent workforce management industries.”

Nelson Staffing is thrilled to have been selected the Preferred Staffing Provider of the San Francisco 49ers. “This is a dream come true,” says 40+ year season ticket holder and company founder, Gary D. Nelson. The preferred provider recognition marks a commitment the 49ers have to supporting their local vendors; in this case, Nelson, a Bay Area homegrown organization for the past 40 years. “Having the team select us as its preferred staffing provider is an honor,” states Nelson. “It is our privilege and pleasure to provide the 49ers with the best service possible. It’s what the 49ers expect of their players and we, as part of the 49ers’ service team, will not disappoint.”

A five-time Super Bowl winner with 14 Hall-of-Famers to their credit, the 49ers represent a force for high standards, values, and opportunities in this community, and have since the team’s inception in 1946. The partnership with Nelson provides work opportunities at all upcoming 49er events during the coming four seasons, thereby stimulating the local economy.

Nelson will fill a variety of seasonal jobs for the 49ers and have already begun the search for strong candidates. Since all well-run staffing programs include elements other than simply “filling spots,” Nelson will also provide pre-employment screening, I-9 verification, new employee orientation, and retention strategies to keep the most talented people with the organization.

“The 49ers have selected and coached some of the best athletes in NFL history since the team’s inaugural season. We have been doing the same in the staffing industry for 40 years. We look forward to offering the same excellence in our services that the 49ers do when they take the field,” says founder and owner Gary Nelson.
